The Teachers of CPNSK

Director and Teacher – 4s
I am returning “home” after retiring the Prince Georges County Schools where I taught Pre- K and second grade. I am the mother of three former students of CPNS, two daughters and a grandson. I grew up in New York, married and have been in Maryland for thirty four years. I began teaching at CPNS when my daughters were two and four and taught the threes and kindergartners. I bring energy, experience and life-long learning to my new journey here as the Director and teacher of the Pre-K classes.

I earned a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, and a Certificate in Teacher Leadership, but most of what I have learned has been from the children and their parents, who know them best. The parent participating school model is where adults and children learn and grow together. Parents and children make life-long friends here at the school. Parents find new skills and talents as they work together to manage their children’s school and learn how to transition to a “big kid” school setting as an advocate for students; as members of the PTA or school volunteers. Many have gone on to careers in education, teaching, speech pathology, counseling and the like. My favorite quote from a parent, “I never had the opportunity to attend nursery school or kindergarten, but now with my daughter I have.”

I grew up in Maryland. I have one sister. I’ve been married for over 25 years and have three children. I taught at Holy Redeemer School for 14 years as a special teacher. I always wanted to teach pre-school, but they didn’t have the space to start one. I heard about College Park Nursery School & Kindergarten, and came for an interview, and was hired. I went back to school to finish my degree, and will be done in May 2009!

I grew up in Massachusetts, and lived there until I was 30. I have a BS from the Boston University School of Public Communications. Before my children were born, I was a video and print editor, and Operations Manager and a Law Office Administrator, as well as a self-employed provider of secretarial and administrative services.

My two children attended College Park Nursery School. During that time I was a Board Member and served a term as President of the Board. I was a substitute teacher and aide in the Kindergarten class. When my youngest child left CPNS to begin elementary school, I began my teaching career at a nearby school as a PreK–K teacher.

Now I am back at CPNS, teaching 3 and 4 year olds. I am thrilled—it’s like returning home.
